PRINCE2® Practitioner is designed for professionals who already have an eligible project management qualification and want to develop their ability to apply and tailor the PRINCE2® method in practice.
Where Foundation focuses primarily on understanding the structure and terminology of PRINCE2®, Practitioner goes further.
You’ll work with project situations and scenarios to develop your understanding of how PRINCE2® principles, practices and processes can be applied appropriately within different environments.
In simple terms:
Foundation asks: “Do you understand PRINCE2®?”
Practitioner asks: “Can you use PRINCE2® appropriately in a project situation?”

To take the PRINCE2® Project Management Practitioner 7 examination, you must hold an eligible project management certification.
Accepted qualifications currently include eligible PRINCE2® Foundation/Practitioner certifications, PMP®, CAPM®, APM PMQ/PPQ and IPMA Levels A–D.

The Practitioner examination is open book, but that doesn’t mean you can rely on searching through the manual for every answer.
The assessment focuses on your ability to interpret a project scenario and determine how PRINCE2® should be applied.
Your preparation should therefore focus on:
understanding the method
knowing where key information is located
interpreting scenarios carefully
applying PRINCE2® appropriately
PeopleCert currently states that the Practitioner exam is available in 14 languages (English, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Slovak, Spanish) and that official results are available within 2 business days.
PRINCE2® Practitioner certification is currently valid for three years under PeopleCert’s continuing certification framework.
To remain current, you’ll need to renew your certification through one of PeopleCert’s applicable renewal routes before the renewal date.
PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner (Version 7) is the advanced PRINCE2® certification focused on your ability to apply and tailor the PRINCE2® method within project situations.
Foundation focuses on understanding the PRINCE2® method. Practitioner focuses on applying and tailoring it to project scenarios.
Not necessarily. PRINCE2® Foundation is one accepted prerequisite, but PeopleCert also accepts specified qualifications from APM, PMI and IPMA.
Current accepted qualifications include PRINCE2® Foundation/eligible previous versions, APM PMQ, APM PPQ, PMP®, CAPM and IPMA Levels A–D. Always check the current PeopleCert eligibility rules before enrolment.
Practitioner is not the introductory level of PRINCE2®. If you’re new to the method and don’t already hold another accepted project-management qualification, Foundation is normally the appropriate starting point.
The examination lasts 150 minutes.
The current examination contains 56 questions and sub-questions worth a total of 70 marks.
The pass mark is 60%, equivalent to at least 42 marks out of 70.
