How was your Month of September?

September was an exciting yet intense month for We-are-HR as our team worked tirelessly to launch a range of innovative new products. We’re proud to announce that we’ve officially become an approved Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Centre! With this achievement, our team has been busy designing tailored programmes that meet the evolving needs of our expanding global community of learners.

Our webinar this month was about “How to Manage an Aging workforce” and our host Idris Arshad (Top 10 HR Most Influential Practitioner 2024) discussed this topic in great detail. Check out some of the key takeaways:

Idris, an expert in HR, discussed the importance of understanding and managing an ageing workforce, emphasising the need for proactive measures to support an ageing workforce and the importance of age inclusion in the workplace. He shared a case study of Imperial London hotels, which found that intentionally recruiting older workers had a positive impact on their bottom line and stressed the importance of learning, performance, and considering the needs of an ageing workforce. He concluded by emphasising the need for inclusive management and leadership development and the importance of data-driven insights to guide HR policies and practices.

What is the focus for HR Professionals:

  • HR teams to review and update job advertisements and recruitment materials to ensure age-inclusive language.
  • Managers to receive training on inclusive recruitment practices and reducing age bias in hiring.
  • HR to implement anonymous recruiting processes to reduce potential age discrimination.
  • Organisations should conduct learning needs analyses across different age groups to identify development needs.
  • HR to review flexible working policies and practices to ensure they accommodate the needs of older workers.
